Research Tasks are a Legends: Arceus-inspired system where you complete per-species research goals by catching, battling, evolving, and interacting with Pokemon. Every species in the National Pokedex has its own set of research tasks with unique goals and rewards.

How It Works

Each of the 1,025 Pokemon in the National Dex has 4-8 research tasks. Each task has multiple goal milestones — for example, a "catch" task might have goals at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 catches. Completing each goal earns you research points and research levels for that species.

Reaching research level 10 on any species grants a bonus 100 research points and a permanent 1.1x shiny rate multiplier for that species. This stacks with other shiny boosts — the more species you complete, the better your odds when hunting those Pokemon!

Research Points

Goal TypePoints Per GoalResearch Levels
Standard10 points+1 level
Bonus20 points+2 levels

Bonus goals are marked in the research GUI and are typically harder tasks like catching or using specific moves.

Task Types

Your research tasks will include a mix of these behaviours:

Catch

Catch the Pokemon a number of times. The most common task — every species has one.

Use Move

See the Pokemon use a specific move in battle. Each species has 1-2 signature moves to research.

Defeat

Defeat the Pokemon in battle. Straightforward combat research.

Defeat with Type

Defeat the Pokemon using super-effective moves of a specific type (e.g., defeat Bulbasaur with Fire-type moves).

Evolve

Evolve the Pokemon. Only appears for species that can evolve.

Forms Obtained

Catch different forms (e.g., male and female variants). Only appears for gender-dimorphic species.

Feed

Feed the Pokemon using berries or food items. Appears on roughly 30% of species.

Species Completion Rewards

When you complete all research tasks for a species, you receive a Pokedollar reward based on that species' rarity and a permanent 1.1x shiny rate boost for that species:

RarityExamplesReward
CommonRattata, Pidgey, Caterpie₽200
UncommonEevee, Ditto, Arcanine₽500

Very RareDragonite, Garchomp, Metagross₽2,000
LegendaryMewtwo, Rayquaza, Zacian₽3,500
MythicalMew, Arceus, Celebi₽5,000
Completing every species in the entire National Dex would earn you over ₽540,000 in species rewards alone — plus all the Galaxy Rank rewards on top of that.

Galaxy Ranks

As you accumulate research points across all species, you'll earn Galaxy Ranks — a progression system with increasingly valuable rewards. Check your progress and claim rewards with /arceustasks ranks.

Tips

  • Start with common Pokemon — they're everywhere and easy to complete for quick points toward your first few ranks.
  • Use your party wisely — having a species in your party while battling lets you work on its "use move" tasks naturally.
  • Check your progress — use /arceustasks species <name> to see exactly which goals you still need for any species.
  • Bonus goals count double — prioritize bonus tasks (marked in the GUI) for faster rank progression.
  • Shiny hunting? — completing a species' research grants a permanent 1.2x shiny rate multiplier for that species. Complete every species you plan to hunt!
