Chest Shops

Create and manage chest shops to buy and sell items with other players using storage blocks and signs.

Chest Shops allow you to create automated shops using storage blocks and signs, making it easy to buy and sell items with other players without needing to be online.

Example of a complete chest shop setup with a chest, sign, and display case showing the item being sold.

Compatible Storage Blocks

You can create a Chest Shop by placing a sign on any of these storage blocks:

Chest

Standard wooden chest - the most common choice for shops.

Barrel

Wooden barrel storage block - great for themed shops.

Shulker Box

Purple shulker box - portable and compact shop option.

Gilded Chest

Ornate red and black chest with gold trim - perfect for premium shops.

Sign Format Structure

To create a Chest Shop, you need to place a sign on your chosen storage block with a specific format. The sign must have 3 required lines, with an optional 4th line:

[shop]
[buy]:<sell>
[quantity]
<description> (optional)
The first 3 lines are required. The 4th line (description) is optional but recommended to help players identify your shop.

Example sign format showing the required structure: shop, prices (10:5), quantity (5), and item name (Feather).

Line-by-Line Breakdown

Line 1: Shop Identifier

You must type [shop] (exactly as shown, including brackets)

This tells the server that this sign is a shop sign.

Line 2: Shop Type and Prices

Choose the type of shop you want to create and set the prices according to that type. Use the format [buy]:<sell> where:

  • [buy] = Price players pay to buy items from you
  • <sell> = Price you pay to buy items from players

Shop Type Examples:

FormatShop TypeDescription
10Sell ShopPlayers buy items from you for 10 Park Coins per transaction
10:5Buy & Sell ShopPlayers buy items from you for 10 Park Coins, or sell items to you for 5 Park Coins
:5Buy ShopPlayers sell items to you for 5 Park Coins per transaction
For a sell-only shop, just put the buy price (e.g., 10). For a buy-only shop, use :5 (colon before the number). For both, use 10:5 format.

Line 3: Quantity

Enter the amount of the item that will be bought or sold per transaction.

Examples:

  • 1 = 1 item per transaction
  • 16 = 16 items (1 stack) per transaction
  • 64 = 64 items (1 full stack) per transaction
The quantity applies to both buying and selling. Make sure your storage block has enough items for the quantity you specify!

Line 4: Description (Optional)

Add a short description for your shop. This helps players identify what you're selling. This line is optional - you can leave it blank if you prefer.

Examples:

  • Diamonds
  • Iron Ingots
  • Food Shop
  • Rare Items

Creating Your Shop

Choose Your Storage Block

Select one of the compatible storage blocks (Chest, Barrel, Shulker Box, or Gilded Chest) and place it where you want your shop.

Place a Sign

Place a sign on the storage block. Make sure it's attached to the block you want to use as your shop.

Write the Shop Format

Write the shop format on the sign:

  1. First line: Type [shop]
  2. Second line: Set your prices (e.g., 10, 10:5, or :5)
  3. Third line: Enter the quantity (e.g., 1, 16, 64)
  4. Fourth line: Add a description (optional but recommended)

Right-click the sign while holding the item you want to sell. This links the item to your shop.

Stock Your Shop

Fill the storage block with the items you want to sell. Make sure you have enough items for the quantity you specified!

Shop Examples

Example 1: Sell Shop (Players Buy from You)

[shop]
10
16
Diamond Blocks
  • Players buy 16 Diamond Blocks from you for 10 Park Coins each
  • You need at least 16 Diamond Blocks in the chest

Example 2: Buy Shop (You Buy from Players)

[shop]
:5
1
Iron Ingots
  • Players sell 1 Iron Ingot to you for 5 Park Coins each
  • The chest will fill up as players sell to you

Example 3: Buy & Sell Shop (Both Directions)

[shop]
10:5
64
Wheat
  • Players can buy 64 Wheat from you for 10 Park Coins
  • Players can sell 64 Wheat to you for 5 Park Coins
  • You make a profit of 5 Park Coins per transaction when both are used
Buy & Sell shops are great for trading! Set a higher buy price than sell price to make a profit on each transaction.

Managing Your Shop

Changing the Displayed Item

After creating your shop, you can change the display case (the item shown floating above the chest) by right-clicking the sign while holding the new item you want to display. The shop will update to show the new item in the display case.

The display case helps players quickly identify what your shop is selling at a glance. Make sure to update it if you change the item your shop trades!

Restocking

Make sure to refill the storage block - items don't spawn out of thin air! Players can only buy what you have in stock.

If your storage block runs out of items, players won't be able to buy from your shop until you restock it!

Checking Your Shop

Right-click your shop sign to check:

  • Current stock levels
  • Shop settings
  • Transaction history (if available)

Best Practices

  • Location matters: Place shops in high-traffic areas like spawn or market districts
  • Competitive pricing: Check other shops to ensure your prices are fair
  • Keep shops stocked: Regularly restock your sell shops to keep them active
  • Clear descriptions: Use descriptive fourth lines so players know what you're selling
  • Organize by category: Group similar items together for easier browsing
  • Use appropriate quantities: Consider using smaller quantities (1-16) for expensive items and larger quantities (64) for common items
A good strategy is to set up both buy and sell shops for the same item type, allowing you to act as a trader and make a profit on the price difference!
Make sure to protect your shop area with claims or other protection methods to prevent griefing or theft. Also ensure your storage block is properly secured!
Chest shops are a great way to make money while you're offline. Set up shops for common items that players need regularly!
