Getting Started with Breeding

Crafting a Pasture Block

To begin breeding, you'll need to craft and place a Pasture Block. This block serves as the breeding environment for your Pokemon.

Crafting Recipe:

  • 5x Any Wood Plank
  • 1x PC
  • 2x Wheat
  • 1x Hopper

Craft the Pasture Block

Use the crafting recipe above to create a Pasture Block. You'll need wood planks, a PC, wheat, and a hopper.

Place the Pasture Block

Place the Pasture Block in your desired location. Make sure you have enough space for Pokemon to roam around.

Set Up Collection (Optional)

For automated egg collection, place a chest beneath the Pasture Block and connect it with a hopper. This will automatically collect eggs as they're produced.

Understanding Egg Groups

For two Pokemon to breed, they must belong to compatible egg groups. Each Pokemon is assigned to one or more egg groups, which determines their breeding compatibility.

Common Egg Groups

  • Field: Many land-dwelling Pokemon
  • Water 1: Aquatic Pokemon that live in water
  • Water 2: Larger aquatic Pokemon
  • Water 3: Fish-like Pokemon
  • Bug: Bug-type Pokemon
  • Flying: Flying-type Pokemon
  • Monster: Large, powerful Pokemon
  • Grass: Grass-type Pokemon
  • Human-Like: Humanoid Pokemon
  • Mineral: Rock and Steel-type Pokemon
  • Amorphous: Ghost and Psychic-type Pokemon
  • Dragon: Dragon-type Pokemon
  • Ditto: Ditto can breed with almost any Pokemon (except those in the Undiscovered group)
  • Undiscovered: Legendary and Mythical Pokemon that cannot breed
Ditto is extremely useful for breeding! It can breed with almost any Pokemon, making it easier to obtain Pokemon with desired traits.

The Breeding Process

Step-by-Step Breeding

Select Compatible Pokemon

Choose two Pokemon of opposite genders that share at least one egg group. You can also use Ditto with any compatible Pokemon.

Place Pokemon in Pasture Block

Insert the selected Pokemon into the Pasture Block. You can place up to 16 Pokemon in a single Pasture Block.

Activate Breeding

Right-click the Pasture Block with Wheat to activate breeding. The Pokemon will begin the breeding process.

Wait for Eggs

Pokemon will produce an egg approximately every 15 minutes. Be patient - breeding takes time!

Collect Eggs

Eggs will appear behind the Pasture Block. Right-click the bottom of the block to collect them. If you set up a hopper system, eggs will automatically go to the chest.

IV Inheritance

Individual Values (IVs) are crucial for determining a Pokemon's potential in various stats. Breeding allows for the inheritance of IVs from parent Pokemon.

Breeding Items for IVs

ItemEffect
Destiny KnotWhen held by a parent, ensures that 5 out of 12 IVs from both parents are passed down to the offspring
Power WeightGuarantees the HP IV is passed down from the parent holding it
Power BracerGuarantees the Attack IV is passed down
Power BeltGuarantees the Defense IV is passed down
Power LensGuarantees the Special Attack IV is passed down
Power BandGuarantees the Special Defense IV is passed down
Power AnkletGuarantees the Speed IV is passed down

Optimizing IV Inheritance

Equip Destiny Knot

Have one parent hold a Destiny Knot. This ensures 5 IVs are inherited from the parents.

Use Power Items (Optional)

Equip the other parent with a Power Item corresponding to the specific IV you want guaranteed (e.g., Power Band for Defense).

Breed Multiple Generations

Continue breeding to gradually improve IVs. Each generation can potentially have better IVs than the last.

The Destiny Knot is essential for breeding Pokemon with high IVs. Always use it when breeding for competitive Pokemon!

Nature Inheritance

Natures affect a Pokemon's stat growth, increasing one stat by 10% while decreasing another by 10%.

Passing Down Natures

  • Everstone: When held by a parent, the offspring will have the same nature as the parent holding the Everstone
  • If neither parent holds an Everstone, the nature is random
Use an Everstone on the parent with your desired nature to ensure it's passed down to the offspring!

Ability Inheritance

Regular Abilities

  • Female Pokemon have a chance to pass down their ability to offspring
  • The chance varies based on the number of regular abilities the species has

Hidden Abilities

  • Female Pokemon with a Hidden Ability have a chance to pass it down to their offspring
  • The chance is typically 60% if the female has a Hidden Ability
  • Males can also pass Hidden Abilities when breeding with Ditto
Hidden Abilities are rare and valuable. Breeding is one of the best ways to obtain Pokemon with Hidden Abilities!

Egg Moves

Egg Moves are special moves that Pokemon can only learn through breeding. These moves are passed down from parent to offspring.

How Egg Moves Work

  • If a parent knows an Egg Move, the offspring can inherit it
  • Both parents can contribute Egg Moves
  • Some Egg Moves require specific breeding chains to obtain
Check which Egg Moves a Pokemon can learn before breeding to maximize your offspring's move pool!

Hatching Eggs

Once you have an egg, you need to hatch it to get your new Pokemon.

Hatching Process

  • Keep the egg in your inventory
  • Walk a certain number of steps (varies by Pokemon species)
  • The egg will hatch into a Pokemon

Speeding Up Hatching

Having a Pokemon with one of these abilities in your party will halve the hatching time:

  • Flame Body
  • Magma Armor
  • Steam Engine
Always keep a Pokemon with Flame Body, Magma Armor, or Steam Engine in your party when hatching eggs to save time!

Shiny Breeding Methods

Shiny Pokemon are rare variants with different coloration. Breeding can increase your chances of obtaining shiny Pokemon.

Masuda Method

Breeding two Pokemon from different original trainers increases the shiny chance significantly.

  • This method can be enabled in the server configuration
  • Works best when breeding Pokemon obtained from different players or trades

Crystal Method

Breeding with one or both parents being shiny further increases the odds of hatching a shiny offspring.

  • One shiny parent: Increased shiny chance
  • Both parents shiny: Even higher shiny chance
Shiny breeding methods must be enabled in the server configuration. Check with server staff if these methods are available!

Breeding Strategies

For Perfect IVs

  1. Start with Pokemon that have high IVs in desired stats
  2. Use Destiny Knot to pass down 5 IVs
  3. Use Power Items to guarantee specific IVs
  4. Breed multiple generations, selecting the best offspring as new parents
  5. Continue until you achieve perfect or near-perfect IVs

For Specific Natures

  1. Obtain a Pokemon with the desired nature
  2. Give it an Everstone
  3. Breed it with a compatible Pokemon
  4. All offspring will have the same nature

For Hidden Abilities

  1. Obtain a female Pokemon with the desired Hidden Ability
  2. Breed it with a compatible male Pokemon
  3. Offspring have a 60% chance to inherit the Hidden Ability
  4. Continue breeding until you get the desired ability

For Egg Moves

  1. Teach the desired Egg Move to a parent Pokemon
  2. Breed it with a compatible Pokemon
  3. The offspring will inherit the Egg Move
